- SUMMARY:”Greg Squared leads this mostly Balkan-inspired ensemble which plays tunes ranging from the plaintive clarinet ‘miroloi’ of northern Greece to the funkier grooves of the Serbian and Macedonia Roma (gypsies); from the mysterious qualities of Turkish calgija music to the driving power of Bulgarian wedding music.
Followed by a special screening of SAMPIONITE NA SUTKA (Champions of Sutka)- A whimsical documentary describing the various record-holders of Sutka, the largest gypsy neighborhood in eastern Europe, located in Skopje, Macedonia. The titles are in such categories as most well-dressed, best horse trainer, best ghost catcher, best fighting goose, best collection of Turkish cassettes, etc. In Serbian with English subtitles.”
